A Return to Civilization (II)

Back when the largest hard drive in our house was a whopping 120MB, we had Civilization on 3.5″ floppy disks.  Somehow, it was even better than both the original Wing Commander (not to be confused with the later ones in which Mark Hamill did some voice acting) and Descent (which, even with every detail at the minimum, was about all our 40MHz processor could take).  And somehow, Civilization II killed that original, wonderful game.  I re-installed it on my computer this past Saturday.  As the Zulus first, now as the English, I am discovering Pottery and Seafaring all over again.  Seriously addicting.  Which is why gameplay makes the game.

Gameplay and not these stunning full-motion video graphics (or FMV, as I remember PC Gamer always saying).  This is not gameplay, but a meeting with the high council.  Check out that acting:

That game is so good! Maybe I should reinstall it… I miss building granaries and researching despotism.
