The inclusive musical vision of Sesame Street

Yesterday morning NPR profiled Samuel Ramey, an internationally recognized bass opera singer.  For one thing, his speaking voice is ridiculously low.  Be careful of the volume if you decide you want to listen to the article, because I think he hits a brown note at about 1:21 in.  The interview reminded me of how much I love opera.  But for the first time I thought I would like to be able to sing it (this, in addition to my ever-present hope that one day a throat infection will leave me singing like John Lee Hooker).

At any rate (aside from his twenty year career with the Metropolitan Opera), Ramey’s claim to fame is an appearance on Sesame Street singing about the letter L (because he’s a bass, and “low” begins with “L” of course):

And Sesame Street’s love of music continues to this day.  Consider Feist singing about the number 4 last year (although I have a sneaking suspicion that she may have been lip-synching):
