Three Are Ye, and other celebrations of the Trinity

‘Three are ye, three are we, have mercy upon us!’

So goes the prayer of Tolstoy’s “Three Hermits,” a beautiful short short story you should read, which teaches about true prayer and true faith (basically, that they’re simple).

Today is Trinity Sunday.  Like many days in the church, it’s a “But isn’t every Sunday <blank> Sunday?” kind of day.   The answer: Yes…and we all think deeply about the mystery of the Trinity every day of our lives.  I at least don’t.

I also still need some education on the classic iconography of the Trinity (i.e., I don’t yet understand it):
