The rule of thumb which leads to this post is that if I find myself talking back to and gasping at a video, I should probably post it.  Below, Hans Rosling creates an amazing visual of the last 200 years of human history in terms of life expectancy and wealth:

In terms of a slight commentary on my part, Rosling’s utter certainty of future up-and-up-ness seems optimistic beyond his data (especially when we realize that 200 years is not much in the whole of human history).
